Alternate Spaces of the Great War
Call for Papers
This is an AHRC funded Network project which began on 1st September 2013. We are planning three Symposia for 2014 to bring together scholars of the Great War to discuss new perspectives, and formulate narratives of war that move away from the trenches of the Western Front. The symposia will be as follows:
> 1. Symposium 1: ‘Alternate Spaces: Journeys’ – to explores physical, spiritual and literary journeys, 29th March 2014 at Queen Mary’s, London
> 2. Symposium 2: ‘Alternate Spaces: Landscapes’ – to include art history and heritage as well as literary landscapes, 7th July 2014, at Plymouth University
> 3. Symposium 3: ‘Alternate Spaces: Voices’ – to include publishing/book history and the book trade, 9th September 2014 at Oxford Brookes University.
Each symposium will be made up of around ten invited speakers who will deliver a short paper and engage in the development of a wider discussion. The project hopes to produce an edited collection of essays (Routledge) and a special edition of Journal of War and Culture Studies. We have a number of spaces remaining at each symposium. Anyone interested in participating should send a 200 word abstract to the organizers Angela K. Smith (Plymouth University firstname.lastname@example.org) and Krista Cowman (University of Lincoln email@example.com) by 29th November 2013. We would be particularly interested to hear from Early Career Researchers.
